Sun appoints first public policy officer

Sun Microsystems Inc. has named Deputy General Counsel Piper Cole as the company's first director of public policy.

Since joining Sun in 1987, Cole has been involved in shaping the company's public policy program. In her new role, she will work with executive management to develop and implement public policy positions, foster alliances on policy issues and help facilitate Sun's participation in industry associations and coalitions.

Piper Cole is a graduate of the U.S. International University in San Diego and Hastings College of the Law. Prior to joining Sun, she worked as in-house counsel for Computerland and MicroAge, and practiced law with the San Francisco firm of Janin, Morgan and Brenner.
